Jarienn A. James

ABOUT JARIENN

Jarienn A. James is an attorney, Assistant Dean, PhD student in Sociology studying the life course and social inequality, and founder of De Jari Consulting LLC.

Dr. Barbara Harris Combs developed “The Weight” to describe the physical and emotional burden Black Americans carry when they are perceived as bodies out of place. Informed by this scholarship and her own professional, scholarly, and lived experience, Jarienn developed The Weight and The Wait™ as an integrated framework examining The Weight, other visible and invisible responsibilities, delays affecting goals and transitions, and how they interact.

Jarienn’s Christian faith and biblical principles remain visible and integral to the work. The framework is rooted in her lived experience as a Christian Black immigrant woman and also speaks to people navigating spaces not built with them in mind and those who recognize their own experiences in it.
